Custom Made Hand-Knotted Rugs for Luxury Homes in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Desert Mountain, Silverleaf, DC Ranch & Troon

Baluchi Rug Gallery designs and produces custom area rugs on our own loom — any size, any style, any color specification — for the finest homes across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, Fountain Hills, and the wealthy communities of North Scottsdale. Family-operated since 1990.

Not every home is best served by a rug you can pull off a warehouse shelf. Sometimes the room's proportions demand a size that isn't produced in standard dimensions. Sometimes the interior designer has specified a color palette that no manufactured rug quite matches. Sometimes the client wants a rug that will be genuinely one-of-a-kind — a piece that will never appear in another home, that reflects their family's story and their home's specific character. These are the projects that require a custom rug.

Baluchi Rug Gallery has been the source for custom made area rugs across the Phoenix metro for over three decades. Our custom rug program serves interior designers, architects, luxury home builders, and homeowners across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, North Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Fountain Hills, Carefree, Arcadia, Biltmore, DC Ranch, Silverleaf, Desert Mountain, Troon, Troon North, Grayhawk, McCormick Ranch, Gainey Ranch, Pinnacle Peak, and Estancia. Every custom rug we produce is hand-knotted on our own loom by master weavers — the same construction method that has produced the most valuable rugs in the world for over 2,500 years.

Communities We Serve

The custom rug program is used most frequently by clients in the wealthiest residential communities of the Phoenix metro, where custom builds and full-home refurnishings routinely include commissioned rugs designed to the exact specifications of the space. These are the communities we regularly deliver to and consult with:

In-Home Design Consultations

We travel to homes across the Phoenix metro for in-person design consultations. Whether you're building a new residence in Silverleaf, renovating an estate in Paradise Valley, or replacing a rug that no longer fits your Desert Mountain great room, we bring color samples, wool references, and design sketches directly to your home at no cost.

What Makes a Custom Rug Different

The difference between a custom rug and a purchased stock rug is not incremental — it's categorical. A stock rug is made in advance, at a size the manufacturer thought would sell, in colors chosen by a product designer who never saw your home. A custom rug is made after your specifications are set, at the exact dimensions your room requires, in colors selected against your paint chips, fabric swatches, and finish samples.

Every dimension is controlled: the length and width to the inch, the pile height, the border proportions, the medallion scale relative to the field. Every color is controlled: we can produce dye samples matched to specific Pantone values, to interior fabrics, to a client's existing collection. Every material is controlled: the wool source, the silk content, the natural or chemical dye specification, the knot density. And every design element is controlled: traditional Persian medallion patterns can be modified in proportion or color, tribal designs can be adapted for modern homes, entirely original designs can be commissioned from scratch.

Because the rug is being made for your home specifically, it will fit the space in a way no stock rug ever can. That is the value proposition of a custom rug — and the reason our clients across Paradise Valley, Desert Mountain, and Silverleaf choose to commission custom pieces rather than settle for what's available in stock.

The Custom Rug Design Process

1

Design Consultation

Every custom rug project begins with a design consultation — either in your home or at our Old Town Scottsdale gallery. We discuss the room, the aesthetic direction, the color palette, the existing furnishings, and the design references you're drawn to. If you're working with an interior designer, we coordinate directly with their vision.

2

Specification & Sample Approval

Once the design direction is set, we produce technical drawings showing the rug's proportions, pattern layout, and border treatment. We produce yarn samples in the specified colors for approval, and can produce a small woven sample panel showing knot density, color accuracy, and material feel before full production begins.

3

Loom Setup & Production Begins

Production begins on our own loom under the supervision of master weavers. Each knot is tied individually by hand — the same construction method used in the great Persian weaving centers for over two millennia. Knot density typically runs 150-500+ knots per square inch depending on the specification.

4

Progress Updates

Throughout production we provide progress updates and photographs so you can see the rug developing. For designer-led projects, we coordinate with your project timeline to ensure the rug arrives when the room is ready to receive it.

5

Finishing, Delivery & Installation

Once weaving is complete, the rug is washed, blocked, and finished. We deliver personally to your home in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Desert Mountain, Silverleaf, DC Ranch, Troon, or wherever the project is located, and coordinate installation to ensure the rug sits correctly in the space it was designed for.

Styles We Produce

Custom Persian Rugs

Classical Persian designs — Tabriz, Isfahan, Kashan, Qom, Kirman — produced in your specified colors and dimensions. Ideal for traditional Paradise Valley estates and formal Scottsdale residences.

Custom Modern & Contemporary

Abstract patterns, organic textures, and minimal designs suited to Desert Mountain contemporary architecture and modern Silverleaf residences. Muted palettes that anchor without overwhelming.

Custom Tribal & Southwestern

Kazak, Baluch, Kilim, and Southwestern designs adapted for luxury contemporary homes. Popular for Cave Creek ranch properties and Carefree desert estates.

Custom Traditional

Oushak, Serapi, and European-influenced designs for traditional and transitional homes throughout DC Ranch, McCormick Ranch, and Gainey Ranch.

Custom Silk Rugs

Fine silk-on-silk or silk-and-wool custom pieces with 400-800+ knots per square inch. Investment-grade rugs typically commissioned for formal Paradise Valley living rooms and Biltmore residences.

Custom Runners & Oversized Rugs

Runners cut to exact hallway or staircase dimensions. Palace-size rugs (13x17 and larger) for expansive great rooms in Troon, Troon North, and Estancia estates.

Custom Cut Rugs & Alternative Sizing

In addition to full custom design, we also offer custom cut rugs — larger rugs that can be trimmed and rebound to your exact specifications when standard dimensions don't fit your space. This is particularly useful for hallways, staircase landings, entryway inserts, and irregularly shaped rooms where a stock size would leave awkward gaps. Every custom cut rug is professionally rebound with matched serge or fringed edge finishing that maintains the integrity of the original piece.

For clients who need dimensions between standard sizes, we can also produce custom made area rugs to exact measurements. If your Silverleaf dining room needs an 11'6" x 15'2" rug to fit under the table with proper margins, we can weave one to those precise dimensions. There is no size specification we cannot accommodate.

Who Commissions Custom Rugs

Interior Designers

Custom rugs give interior designers complete control over the palette and proportions of a room. Rather than compromising on stock colors that almost match the fabric plan, designers can specify exact color values. Our trade program provides preferred pricing, technical drawings, sample production, and dedicated project management for design firms working across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and the wider metro. See our directory of leading interior designers for design firms we regularly work with.

Luxury Home Builders & Architects

Custom home builders in Silverleaf, Desert Mountain, DC Ranch, and Troon regularly commission rugs at the design phase — before the home is complete — so the rugs arrive in time for final installation. We work directly with the builder or architect on specifications and coordinate delivery around construction timelines.

Homeowners with Established Collections

Clients who already own investment-grade rugs sometimes commission new custom pieces to complete a room or fill a specific space. We can produce pieces that complement existing rugs — matching color families, design vocabularies, or aesthetic sensibilities — without producing an exact duplicate.

Renovation & Refurnishing Projects

Full-home refurnishings across Paradise Valley, Arcadia, and Biltmore often involve replacing every rug in the home. When the scale of the project justifies it, homeowners commission custom pieces for each major room rather than sourcing off-the-shelf. The result is a cohesive collection designed for one home.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Wool

The vast majority of custom rugs are woven from hand-spun wool. We source premium wools including highland wool, New Zealand wool, and Kurk wool — the fine wool from the throat area of sheep that produces the softest, most lustrous rugs. All wools are hand-spun and hand-dyed for the color depth and complexity that machine-processed wool cannot replicate.

Silk

For finer knot densities and higher-luster surfaces, we produce custom silk rugs in silk-on-silk or silk-and-wool combinations. Silk rugs typically feature knot densities of 400-800+ knots per square inch and are commissioned for formal rooms where the visual impact of silk is appropriate to the space.

Natural & Synthetic Dyes

Custom rugs can be produced with either natural vegetable dyes (indigo, madder root, walnut hull, pomegranate) or high-quality chrome dyes depending on your specifications. Natural dyes produce the greatest color complexity and aging character but are more expensive; chrome dyes offer more consistent color matching for interior specifications requiring exact Pantone accuracy.

Knot Density

Custom rugs can be produced at any knot density from 100 KPSI (village-quality tribal rugs) through 200-300 KPSI (fine Persian city rugs) up to 500-800+ KPSI (investment-grade silk rugs). Higher knot density produces finer pattern detail and takes proportionally longer to weave.

Investment Perspective on Custom Rugs

Custom hand-knotted rugs are among the few home furnishing categories that hold or appreciate in value over time. Unlike upholstered furniture, casegoods, or lighting — which depreciate immediately upon purchase — a hand-knotted custom rug is a functional textile that, if properly maintained, will maintain its value across decades. Antique Persian rugs made 100-200 years ago still sell at auction for meaningful sums; a custom rug commissioned today may be a valuable heirloom in your grandchildren's homes.

This is one reason our Paradise Valley, Desert Mountain, and Silverleaf clients often choose custom over stock. A custom rug is not just an interior purchase — it's a small, deliberate contribution to a lineage of textile art that has been continuously produced for over two thousand years.

Why Baluchi for Custom Rugs

Our Own Loom & Master Weavers

Unlike most rug galleries that broker custom orders through third-party production facilities, Baluchi Rug Gallery operates our own loom with our own team of master weavers. This gives us direct control over quality, timeline, and specification accuracy — and gives our clients a more responsive experience during the design and production process.

35+ Years of Trade Experience

The Baluchi and Momeni families have been in the handmade rug business across Arizona and New Mexico for over 35 years. That depth of experience means we can advise you on which specifications will actually work for your space — which colors will read correctly in Arizona's high-desert light, which knot densities are appropriate for the room's traffic patterns, which sizes will feel right relative to the furniture plan.

Direct Import & Family Operation

Because we operate as a family business with direct import relationships, our custom pricing is significantly more competitive than the trade markups typical of designer-brokered custom rug orders. Clients across Desert Mountain, DC Ranch, and Troon regularly comment that our custom pricing came in well below the estimates they'd received from other sources.

In-Home Consultations Across the Valley

We travel to Paradise Valley, Silverleaf, Desert Mountain, DC Ranch, Troon, Troon North, Cave Creek, Carefree, Fountain Hills, and every other community across the metro for in-home design consultations at no cost. Seeing the rug specification in the actual space, in the actual light, with the actual finishes is essential to a successful custom project.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Rugs

What is a custom rug?

A custom rug is a handmade rug produced to your exact specifications — the size, colors, materials, pattern, and knot density you specify. Unlike stock rugs, a custom rug is designed specifically for one room, one client, and one home.

How long does it take to make a custom rug?

Custom rug production typically takes 3 to 8 months depending on size, knot density, and complexity. A standard 9x12 hand-knotted wool rug at 150-200 knots per square inch generally takes 4-5 months. Finer knot counts (300-500+ KPSI) or silk foundations extend the timeline. Design consultation and specification approval typically take 2-3 weeks before production begins.

What sizes can custom rugs be made in?

There is no size limitation. We regularly produce standard sizes (6x9, 8x10, 9x12, 10x14) as well as oversized palace rugs (13x17, 14x22, and larger), runners for hallways and stairs, round rugs for entryways, and irregular shapes for architecturally complex spaces.

How much does a custom rug cost?

Custom rug pricing depends on size, materials, knot density, and design complexity. Because every custom rug is unique, pricing is quoted individually after design consultation. Contact us at (480) 219-8095 to schedule a design consultation and receive a detailed quote for your project.

Can you match an existing rug or design?

Yes. We regularly produce custom rugs that match existing pieces, complement specific interior color palettes, or reinterpret historical rug designs for contemporary homes. We can work from photographs of inspiration pieces, fabric swatches, paint chips, or your interior designer's specifications.

Do you work with interior designers on custom rug projects?

Yes. Baluchi Rug Gallery has been the custom rug source for Scottsdale and Paradise Valley interior designers for over 30 years. We offer trade pricing, dedicated project management, technical drawings and color samples, and coordination with your design timeline.

Can I see samples before committing to full production?

Yes. Before full production begins, we produce yarn samples in the specified colors for approval and can produce a small woven sample panel showing knot density, color accuracy, and material feel. This ensures the final rug will match your expectations before the multi-month production commitment.

Do you deliver custom rugs to homes in Desert Mountain, Silverleaf, and DC Ranch?

Yes. We deliver and install custom rugs personally throughout the Phoenix metro, including Desert Mountain, Silverleaf, DC Ranch, Troon, Troon North, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, Fountain Hills, Carefree, Arcadia, Biltmore, and every other community across the Valley. There is no delivery charge for in-metro installations.
