Not a Carpet Cleaner — A Rug Gallery
There's a fundamental difference between a carpet cleaning company that takes handmade rugs on the side and a rug gallery that cleans and repairs the same types of rugs it sells, imports, and collects. At Baluchi Rug Gallery, we carry over 7,000 handmade rugs in our Old Town Scottsdale showroom — Persian, tribal, modern, Kilim, silk, and antique pieces from every major weaving region. When your rug arrives at our facility, we know exactly what we're handling — its construction, its dye type, its fiber characteristics, and the specific approach that will clean or repair it safely.
That depth of knowledge is the difference between a rug that comes back looking beautiful and a rug that comes back damaged. We've been doing this for over 30 years. We hold a perfect 5.0-star Google rating with 100+ verified reviews, an A+ BBB accreditation, and the trust of thousands of Arizona homeowners and interior designers.
Our Rug Cleaning Process
Pre-Inspection & Dye Testing
We examine your rug's construction, fiber type, dye stability, and condition. We test for colorfastness before any cleaning begins. If we identify damage that needs repair, we discuss it with you before proceeding.
Deep Dusting
We mechanically remove all embedded desert grit before water touches the rug. In Arizona's climate, this step is critical — a rug can hold pounds of fine particulate that turns to abrasive mud if washed without dusting first.
Full-Submersion Hand Wash
The rug is fully submerged and hand-washed using cleaning agents selected for its specific fiber and dye type. No steam cleaning, no machine agitation, no shortcuts. Full submersion is the only way to flush contaminants from the rug's foundation.
Complete Rinse
We rinse until the water runs completely clear. Residual soap left in a rug attracts dirt faster and causes fibers to become sticky and dull.
Controlled Drying
Dried flat in a controlled environment — no high-heat dryers, no direct sunlight. Proper drying preserves the rug's shape, prevents mildew, and maintains the pile's natural sheen.
Grooming & Final Inspection
We groom the pile, inspect fringes and edges, and perform a final quality check before wrapping your rug for return delivery.
We offer enzyme-based pet odor decontamination that targets urine at the foundation level — not just the surface. If your rug still smells after a previous cleaning, the foundation contamination was never addressed. Our process eliminates the odor at its source.
Specialized Cleaning for Every Rug Type
Every rug type has different fibers, different dyes, and different construction — and each requires a tailored cleaning approach. Choose your rug type for detailed information on how we clean it:

Rug Repair & Restoration
Every handmade rug is designed to be repairable — because every knot was tied by hand, a skilled artisan can restore damaged areas using the same traditional techniques the original weaver employed. Our repair services address damage of all types, from minor fringe stabilization to major antique restoration.
Why Timely Repair Matters
On a hand-knotted rug, damage spreads. A small tear becomes a large hole. A loosening fringe unravels the foundation. A moth-eaten patch expands week by week. A $200 fringe repair today can prevent a $2,000 reweaving project in six months. If you notice any damage on your rug — no matter how minor — bring it in or send us photos immediately. We provide free assessments.

No. Steam cleaning can cause dye bleeding, wool shrinkage, foundation damage, and trapped moisture. Handmade rugs should only be cleaned using full-submersion hand washing with controlled temperatures and fiber-appropriate cleaning agents. We never use steam cleaning.
Every 3-5 years for normal use, or every 2-3 years for homes with pets, children, or high traffic. Arizona's desert dust embeds deeply in rug fibers and acts as an abrasive. Regular professional cleaning removes this grit and extends the rug's life by decades.
Yes. We treat active infestations, reweave moth-eaten areas with color-matched wool, and provide prevention guidance. Early detection is critical — a small patch is an affordable repair, but left unchecked, moths can destroy an entire rug. Arizona's warm climate makes this a year-round threat.
