Rug Repair & Restoration

Expert repair and restoration for handmade Persian, Oriental, tribal, and antique rugs — preserving the beauty and value of your investment.

When Your Rug Needs More Than Cleaning

Every handmade rug tells a story, and over the years — through foot traffic, pet damage, furniture wear, moth infestations, or accidental tears — that story can include some battle scars. The good news is that unlike machine-made rugs, handmade rugs are designed to be repaired. Because every knot is tied individually by hand, a skilled artisan can restore damaged areas without replacing the entire piece.

Baluchi Rug Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale offers comprehensive repair and restoration services for handmade rugs of all types, origins, and ages. With over 30 years of experience in the rug business, our team has the expertise to bring damaged rugs back to life while preserving their authenticity and value.

Our Repair & Restoration Services

Reweaving & Re-Knotting

For holes, tears, or worn-through areas, we reweave the damaged section using techniques and materials that match the original construction. This includes matching the knot type, pile height, and yarn weight so the repair blends seamlessly with the surrounding area. On finely knotted rugs, this is painstaking work — but it's the only way to restore structural integrity without compromising the rug's value.

Fringe Repair & Replacement

Fringe is one of the most vulnerable parts of a handmade rug because it's an extension of the rug's structural warp threads. When fringe wears away or gets chewed by a vacuum, the rug's foundation can start to unravel. We repair, stabilize, or replace fringes using methods appropriate to the rug's construction — whether that's hand-knotting new fringe, securing existing fringe, or applying a clean overcast finish.

Selvage & Edge Repair

The selvage (side edge binding) protects the rug's weft threads from unraveling. Over time, selvage can loosen, fray, or detach entirely. We re-bind and reinforce edges using wool or cotton thread that matches the original binding, preventing further structural damage.

Moth Damage Restoration

Arizona's warm climate makes moth damage a real concern, especially for rugs stored in closets, under furniture, or in rooms with low traffic. Moths eat the wool pile down to the foundation, leaving bare patches. We restore moth-damaged areas by reweaving new pile into the exposed foundation, matching colors and knot density as closely as possible.

Color Touch-Up & Restoration

Sun fading, chemical spills, or improper cleaning can leave discolored patches on an otherwise beautiful rug. We offer careful color restoration using fiber-safe dyes and techniques that restore vibrancy without compromising the rug's original character.

Structural Stabilization

For antique or heavily worn rugs, we can stabilize the overall structure — reinforcing weak foundations, securing loose areas, and adding backing or patches where necessary to extend the rug's functional life while preserving its appearance.

Why Repair Is Worth the Investment

A high-quality handmade rug can last 50 to 100+ years with proper care. A timely repair — reweaving a worn corner, stabilizing a fraying edge, or addressing moth damage before it spreads — can extend your rug's life by decades and preserve its resale and heirloom value. The cost of a skilled repair is almost always a fraction of what it would cost to replace the rug with a comparable piece.

Why Choose Baluchi Rug Gallery

We're not a general carpet repair shop. Baluchi Rug Gallery is a full handmade rug gallery with over 7,000 pieces in our collection. We sell, clean, and repair the same types of rugs — Persian, Oriental, tribal, Kazak, Kilim, silk, and antique — so we understand both their construction and their market value. Our artisans use traditional hand-repair techniques, and our 30+ years of experience means we've seen and fixed virtually every type of damage. We hold a 5.0-star Google rating, BBB A+ accreditation, and are open 7 days a week at our Old Town Scottsdale showroom.
